John grew up between the mountains and beaches of Southern California, wandering its wild places and learning, long before he had words for it, how the land influences the way we feel and experience life.

He first studied psychology, drawn to the inner landscapes of human experience, before turning to architecture. At the University of Southern California, he quickly gained recognition, earning an international design award and the Gamble House Scholar-in-Residence Fellowship. Yet buildings alone could not contain his curiosity. After several years in architecture, and a remarkable introduction to landscape practice at the Getty Villa in Malibu, his attention was drawn toward the natural world.

John has designed places and experiences across the United States and abroad: quiet gardens, civic landscapes, urban spaces and ecological systems. Whatever the scale, his work begins with a simple conviction—every place holds a larger idea waiting to be revealed through story.

He approaches design through light, movement, texture, memory and time. Architecture and landscape are not separate territories, but parts of one continuous experience: a path opening toward the horizon, shade gathering beneath a tree, water carrying the sky, a place where people feel more connected to one another and to the earth.

John leads through curiosity and collaboration. He is a designer, maker and problem solver, drawn most deeply to work that brings lasting social, emotional and ecological value. His purpose is to create places where life can take root for all to thrive.
